Visit to school El Peralejo in Alpedrete (Spain).

On the first week of March 2020 two Lindi school students – Ander Aasa and Georg Roose and their two teachers Kirstin Riives and Kadri Tamberg – we took off from Tallinn Airport to Spain Madrid. Ander and Georg (both 10-year-old third-graders) experienced their first trip abroad without their families and we had a wonderful week ahead waiting for us.

We arrived safely late at night and had good rest in the hotel of Villalba.  In the morning we met all students and teachers from other countries and also local families who became our students’ host families during that week.

On the first day we had a wonderful opportunity to go on a hiking trip to a nature park with local students and teachers, we also visited the medieval royal town El Escorial. It was a great day to experience wonderful nature, historical heritage and also get to taste the typical Spanish dessert – churros with hot chocolate!

After this trip our students went to stay with their host families and we met them again the next morning in the school of Colegio el Peralejo.  We (all the guests from other countries of this project – Austria, the Netherlands and Estonia) were welcomed with music and flowers and students had their first school day in Spain.

After the school was over they went home to their host families and enjoyed different activities the families had planned for them. At the same time, teachers had a project meeting and a trip to a medieval town Segovia in the afternoon.

On Wednesday we were taken to an excursion to Madrid. We had an interesting city tour with a guide and afterwards we spent time in a lovely park. The weather was really nice and warm and gave us a possibility to enjoy spring two months ahead of spring time in Estonia.

On Thursday our students made their presentation about Estonia – they actually did it in five different classes which made them gain much more confidence as a result.

After the presentations were over all the guests had the honor to meet the Mayor of Alpedrete. We also visited the local library and culture centre together with music school. After that all the students went bowling with their host families and had a wonderful evening.

On Friday – last day at school – we had our last meeting with teachers and our students had some more presentations for different groups in kindergarten. And then it was time to say goodbye to new classmates and friends.

In the next morning we left the hotel and started our journey home with joy and also with a bit of sadness to leave this wonderful place and welcoming new friends behind.

We are really thankful to José Antonio González Illera and to all staff of Colegio el Peralejo for this well-organized and wonderful week in Spain. We are also grateful to the host families who took such good care of our boys and welcomed them in their homes.

We were really privileged and lucky that we had this opportunity to travel and meet with project members just before the lockdown (that came very soon after we got home safely).
