The European adventure of CEIP El Peralejo of Alpedrete began on Sunday October 27 at the Adolfo-Suárez Madrid Barajas airport. Laura, Belén, Matías and Jaime, nervous and happy, began their trip accompanied by the director of the school, Carlos and José Antonio, coordinator of the AXEP project at the school.

This has been the first trip that the school has made with students in an Erasmus + European program. The result has been really positive.

The trip began on Sunday very early, so at 11 am we were already at the central Amsterdam station, to devote the day to visiting the city. We were able to observe many contrasts of people. We saw how boats, cars, trams, bicycles and pedestrians live along the streets and canals of the city. We had the opportunity to contemplate monuments, beautiful images of the canals and some colorful and fun street show. Without realizing it, we were already communicating in English with people. In the afternoon, we take a train to Leerdam to stay.

On Monday we woke up very early to go to Houten Castellum. There was the first meeting with the students and teachers of the school, who welcomed us in a huge human hall. It was a very warm and exciting experience.

Students were welcome in the classrooms and the presentations began.

The teachers met at a first meeting in which Diana, Erwin and Anton explained the organization of the school and the DALTON method. Subsequently, we visited the classrooms and other facilities. We highlight the good organization of the spaces and the luminosity of the whole school. The school has large windows in which you can enjoy natural light from anywhere.

At the end of the day we met the host families. After a warm encounter, the students went with the families and host students to spend the afternoon and dine with them. Every afternoon they spent with them and the teachers picked up the students at the Houten Castellun station to travel to the hotel in Leerdam.

On Tuesday, after a theater presentation by students and teachers, students went to classes and the teachers worked on the project website axep.erasmusplus.eu

Many thanks to Eva Hola for your work on the web.

Wednesday meetings dealt with the organization of mobility, new dates, logo competition and other topics of interest. A conversation about immigration, xenophobia and the situation of different countries about that was very interesting.

At the end of the day, we had a very interesting meeting with some families who had gone to live in Holland a few years ago. We made several couples of teachers and families, to talk face to face with them, around several questions about their prejudices about the Dutch and their perception after living in Holland. Thanks to Figen from Turkey and Diana from Spain, for the interesting conversations.

Thursday was the last day of the students at the school. Our students made a presentation to the class about the differences and similarities between Spain and the Netherlands. Then they said goodbye to the schoolmates.

The teachers took an interesting tour of several schools in Houten, where the directors and staff explained their methods of work and organization. Thank you very much to all of them for receiving us.

In the afternoon, all host families organized a farewell party, where they had sweet pancakes.

On Friday, we travel to The Hague to visit Madurodam. On a rainy day, students were able to see emblematic monuments of Holland in miniature. It was fun.

Here came the end of the week. In the afternoon we walk thougt Leerdam .

With a mixture of sadness and satisfaction, the students prepared the suitcase to travel to Madrid on Saturday, October 2, very early.

Many thanks to Erwin, Diana, Anton and the entire Houten school team for their kind welcome this week.
